FINAL FANTASY VII - PSX Review

Game:

FINAL FANTASY VII

Platform:

I- INTRO

This review may be include spoilers, if you will play
this game for the first time, do not read the story
section. Just read the gameplay section. Additionally;
this game is the first turn-based JRPG I ever played.
If you're into JRPGs, this review may not be satisfy
you. This review is for the players who didn't ever
played any JRPGs.

II- STORY

The story starts at a train station. Theres people
calls themselves as "AVALANCHE" and their point is the
save the world from Shinra INC. The characters are
well made and every one of them has different story,
different characteristics and different feelings.
Every one of them are different and it makes you
feel it.

A- SHINRA

Shinra is a company that produces weapons, while
they managed very well, they became really strong
from time to time, even they can control the world.
After Shinra discovered the Mako power, the company
growth magnificently and they built Mako reactors
for extracting Mako's. Shinra has a special forces
named "SOLDIER". The SOLDIER's selected from most
powerful members of the Shinra's army. The SOLDIER's
leader is the legendary "Sephiroth". Nearly all of
the members of army, even civilian kids wanted to
be like him, no wonder the main character of the
game "Cloud Strife" is one of them too.

Midgar is the city where the story being starts and
the city where has the Headquarters of Shinra Inc.
It has eight sectors inside and the story starts
after AVALANCHE's blown up the Mako Reactor at
the Sector 7.

B- MAKO AND MAKO REACTORS

Mako Reactors are giant reactors created by Shinra.
These reactors built for the lifestream from the earth
and process it into mako energy. The mako energies
can be converted to powerful materias. Mako is the
liquid state of the lifesteam. Shinra uses it for
strengthen their soldiers.

C- CETRA

Cetra's was the people who has the natures knowledge.
They could talk with the Earth, they could do magic and
they were the people holder of the world in old times.
But one day, a meteor hit the Northern Crater and they
erased from the world, except one person. That person was
the "Aerith Gainsborough". Cetra's had the lands named
"Promised Land" that has unlimited Mako's, and when Shinra's
realize it, they went after Aeris.

D- JENOVA

The Jenova was called as "The Disaster from the Sky".
Jenova's origin is in deep space, but no one knows
where is it. It moves with her own instincts, but
her intelligence different than human intelligence.
She moves to a planet, and lives there until consumes
all the lifestream of that planet, then looks for
another victim. She is the one who erased Cetra's
from the Earth. Sephiroth's role is different than others
in this topic. The mighty will of Sephiroth, controlled
Jenova's skills like illusion, changing forms.
That's why Cloud Strife defeated by Sephiroth so
many times.

E- JENOVA PROJECT

It is the thing that creates the FFVII's main
story. The point of the project is creating Cetra's
by using Jenova cells. The projects chief was Professor
Gast, and his assistants was Professor Hojo and Lukratia
Crescent. After some time after the project was born,
Lukratia gives birth from Hojo, and she accepts that
the son can be used in Jenova Project. That son was
the Sephiroth. When he is in his mothers womb, they
inject Jenova cells into the embryo. Lukratia dies during
the childbirth. By the time Sephiroth does not meet
the expectations of the scientists and the project
is cancelled.

III- CHARACTERS

A- CLOUD STRIFE

Cloud is the main character of the game. He was born
in the Nibelheim, the city where Tifa Lockhart was born.
They were childhood friends. His idol was the legendary
Sephiroth, and he joined to the SOLDIER because he
wanted to be like him. But after Sephiroth burned up the
Nibelheim and killed everyone, he started to hate Sephiroth.

B- BARRET WALLACE

Barret Wallace is the chief of AVALANCHE's. He takes the
attention by being angry all the time. Marlene is his daughter.

C- TIFA LOCKHART

Tifa is the childhood friend of Cloud Strife from Nibelheim.
When Cloud joined to the SOLDIER, they couldn't talk
until they met in AVALANCHE's again. She is the owner of
the bar named "7th Heaven" in Sector 7.

D- AERIS GAINSBOROUGH

Aeris was the last Cetra that still alive. Her father was
Professor Gast and her mother was Ifalna. After some tragic
things that happened before, she separated from her family,
and started to live with Elmyra, who lives in Midgar's Sector 5.
She was a florist until Shinra went after her and she joined
to the Cloud and his friends.

IV- GAMEPLAY

Final Fantasy VII is a Turn Based J-RPG game. The basics of
the fights is based on turns. You have to wait until your turn
comes to attack. Fights takes maximum 1-2 minutes, but there's
random encounters every 20-30 seconds. At first you may find this
cool to level-up but when you get strong enough (My all characters
was over 57 level when I beat the game) it feels just waste of time.
There's just one song plays in the normal fights (Boss fights has
different themes), and it feels boring after hearing it for 5000
times. When you get the ship and the car you will get rid most
of random encounters.

The game has really big world and so many different things to do
in game. For example, there's a couple of storylines that you
use snowboard, motorcycle and Chocobo's. These are really fun
and well-made. Additionally theres so many minigames that you
can play in Gold Saucer. Gold Saucer is like a Arcade Saloon that
you can play games in game.

The Story feels long and fun enough to play, It has at least
50-60 hours gameplay if you don't use the walkthrough. If you
haven't play this game, it definitely worth to play it even if
it's your first Final Fantasy game or even first J-RPG game.
